Maybe if you stress to Mr. Absentee the importance of the
position and what is required of him, he will either become

If he's not eligible, he can't be elected. Did they know what
the requirements were before voting? When I run into a problem
that has to do with scout rules, I like to go up one level and
bring somebody in to explain the regulations..and the
neccessity of another vote. I've had good support from our
local office. They should be able to handle it a little less
personally. And (hopefully) you're off the hook.

If you want a different assistant, get one. He's not helping
you, not helping the kids. Why kkep him there. I would have a
tendency to be very honest with him. "Bill, (or whatever), I
have to have an Assistant who is going to support me. You
don't. Bye Bye."

The reason that scouting hasn't been taken over by people
like your assistant is because of the dedication and
persistence of people such as you. When you walk out, he takes
over. Is that enough incentive to make you stay?
As for criticism: (1) Hesitating to educate your scouts about
election requirements. (2) Letting your assistant go this far.
(3) Thinking about quitting.
Actually, I wouldn't criticize you for those. But I figure if
you get mad enough, come January you'll be waiting for them at
the door ready to get back on course. Hope it works.
