I will be brief since others had already said most of what I would say on
this. My comment will be by way of a _brief_ anecdote.
Last Spring at our Lodge Officer Training Session (LOTS) for Keyauwee and
Tsalagi lodges our lodge chief got up and addressed the assembled officers
and advisers on priorities, ostensibly trying to convince others to become
committed to their leadership roles in the lodges.
This young man is a Vigil member of our lodge, a recipient of the
Founders' Award, in his second term section secretary, and held numerous
lodge and chapter offices. He is an Eagle Scout and a high school senior.
He said: Scouting is number 4 in his life!
According to him:
Number 1 is God.
Number 2 is his family.
Number 3 is his education.
Some might disagree with number 1. For us adults substitute career for
education.
Whatever we decide for our junior leaders, this is an important piece of
advice to remember.
