Personally, I often find useful information in a good signature, such
as the scouting affiliation and geographic area that are not in
the mail headers. For instance, in my sig I include an email
address that is supposed to stay valid even I change computers,
whereas the automatically generated return address may not.
Rather than asking everyone to eliminate sig files, I would encourage
everyone to review their signature and remove un-needed parts like
ASCII drawings or irrelevant quotations.
It also makes sense to be careful about including text from a
message you are replying to. If you include the original message,
then take a bit of time to edit out the included mail headers
and any text that is not needed to make it clear what your
are reacting to or answering.
