Idea....

G'day folks,

I have an idea, and I am wondering what people think of it, I will be posting
this idea in as many Scouting areas as I can.

Many years ago, there was a branch of Scouting called Deep Sea Scouts (in some
places they still exist), where naval personel (either merchant or military)
could go from Port to Port, country to country, and when they get to a new
place of arrival find the local
representative and be able to find a Scouting activity to go to.

The world wide ramifications of the electronic nets, and the possibilty of
travel is now more significant, we have at our fingertips the tool to make a
business trip or a family holiday really special.

What do people think about forming some sort of international friendship guild
(or even a Rover Crew) whereby, when a traveller gets to a desination and wants
to join in some Scouting activities, all he does is contact the local
commissioner and he (or she) will find an activity that will accomodate the
visitor.

I do not propose a new newsgroup or message area, this type of organisation ran
itself after inception and was very successful. I remember talking once to a
former Deep Sea Scout, who after landing in an Canadian Port was arranged to go
a hike for a couple of days - somewhere in Britisg Columbia!!! The memories of
this hike has stayed with him all his life, and his friendships remained over
20 years by mail with them there.

It is only an idea, I have done some preliminary checking and would need an
awfully large amount of work before it was ratified.

What do people think?

Please e-mail me persoanlly, and I will get back to everyone with a response.

The group would call themsleves something like net scouters or net rovers.
