Hey folks!
This discussion about political correctness and all that and how we should
greet each other at Christmas is all very well, but if we reflect on the
Scouting spirit, we may find that sharing the spirit of the greeting is
the important thing. Yesterday I composed a Christmas Card for my Scouts,
and gave them each a Christmas badge produced by our Scout shop. I used a
quote from Baden-Powell's last message and I think it makes my point well:
"Mature study will show you how full of
beautiful and wonderful things God had
made the world for you to enjoy. Be
contented with what you have got and
make the best of it. Look on the bright
side of things instead of the gloomy one.
But the real way to get happiness is by
giving happiness to other people."
Now I happen to be a Christian, and all of my Scouts are from a christian
background. Now if I greet a fellow Scout with the Christian greeting of
Merry Christmas', I should be able to trust in the Scouting spirit, that
this will be taken as offered, a wish that regardless of his or her faith
I am offering a greeting from MY faith.
So, look on the bright side of life and take it as it is intended!
Merry Christmas to you all
