The problem has not arisen for me yet in our troop... if it did I would
have to counsel the young man on the topic! I think that not only is
there a problem of the example set, but your SPL probably REALLY needs to
set some priorities (assuming there is not some other issue, such as a
learning disorder), and focus a preponderance of his attention in
academic areas for a while. Our OA lodge requires no less than a "C" to
be a lodge officer, and it HAS come up there with the result that an
incumbent chief who wanted to run again, and probably would have been
re-elected, had to pass up the chance in favor of improving his grades.
