Popcorn sales, like any other product, you must look at how you sell.
Informing the public what the product is one thing, but we must also educate
them in what the popcorn sales does for the council, unit and youth. It is
this "Value Added" that is important.
Also help your membership understand the importance of sell this or any other
approved product. Without the income from this or any other source, the unit
will not be able to Activity A and/or Activity B and/or Activity C and so on.
The Scouting name carries a lot in selling. Even though the GSA cookies have
become fewer in the box, I still buy them. Why, the Value Added stuff that
Scouting, Girl or Boy, provides is greater than the cost of the price I pay
for cookies or popcorn. I spend some $30 each year for cookie and $30 for
popcorn. I know and I try to pass it on to others, that $30 is really like
$300 or more for what it can do to help today's youth become better than they
are today.
IMHO, cookies and popcorn sales are the cheapest investment in our youth.
