If your area is anything like mine, the problem is probably total saturation by
fundraisers. Right now, every nonprofit organization in the country,
including many who have never done fundraisers before, is trying desperately
to increase their fundraising because of falling governmental support. At
the same time, lots of people have less money to support such fundraisers
because of high unemployment, underemployment and no/small/negative raises.
When you have an increasing group chasing a shrinking pool of money, at some
point you are going to hit MAJOR resistance. The only solution I can suggest
is to do your best to ensure that everyone sees your program is the one they
MUST support or are selling something that everyone would buy anyway so there
isn't a lot of resistance to a slightly higher price for a worthy cause.
