BSA: Troop number uniqueness? (Answer)

Thanks for the many replies to my question.

Everyone seems to agree that troop numbers are (almost always) unique
within councils, but that's as far as it goes. There are BSA-wide
unique numbers assigned to units, however they do not necessarily have
anything to do with the troop number.
