Welcome to all those wishing to participate with us in our seminar
"Building the =07Global Village" in Belgium this week. This is the first tim=
e
that we have been part of a 'virtual seminar' which might be reaching over
50,000 Scouters and Guiders around the world. We hope that many of you will
join-in with our activities this week. We are a very mixed group of
Scouters and Guiders from many countries in Europe. We would like to tell
you a little bit about ourselves:

Hello my name is Brian Kavanagh.
I am from Dublin Ireland.
I am National Commissioner for Cub Scouts in the Catholic Boy Scouts of Irel=
and.
I came here to try and see what all this New Techologies is about and how I
can use it with children of the 8-10 years range and their leaders.
I also would like to exchange ideas with other Cub people and to see what
we can do with the material that we have.
A little bit about myself I am 35 years.
I am married and I have two children one is 7 years and the second is 4 year=
s.
I would like to hear from other Cub people.

I am a Scout Leader from Agesci (Italy), and a regular member of the
SCOUTS-L, rec.scouting, and scouting-europe forums.
I have been a Leader for Scouts and Rovers, and I am presently Group Scout
Leader. I am also a member of GSI (Gruppo Sperimentazione Informatica -
Informatics Experimenting group). My main job in GSI has to do with
Networks, and we have been running a Fidonet Echomail Area since 1991, and
we have founded the ScoutNet File Distribution Network in 1992. ScoutNet is
now becoming a full network on its own.
I am the SysOp of soon-to-open 'Gilwell BBS', one of the Italian ScoutNet
nodes (it is presently a Mail-Only system).
I am sure we will be able to join efforts here at this seminar, and
coordinate with other nation's networks.
I am also interested in trading badges and scout books (hint, hint)

Massimo (Max) Mascia

I'm a Scout Leader from AGESCI (Italy). I'm a leader at National level for
the age 8-11.
Now, I'm opening a new group in my town.
I'm working in the computing center of the University of Cagliari, I'm the
System Administrator. I'm interested in making a local scout-net node.

My name is Derek Coffey. I am a cub scout leader from Ireland. I am a
member of the Scout association of Ireland, one of four organisations
within the Federation of Irish Scout Associations. I am responsible for
training leaders and also designing the cub scout programme ( as part of
the national cub team). Outside scouting I work as a Systems Manager for a
large screen printing company.
My hobbies outside scouting include canoeing, sailing, scuba diving and
rock climbing.
Why I am here. Why am I here ? I hope to get fuller picture of the
networks available and how people have implemented the computer within
their own programmes. I also hope to drink plenty of this nice Belgian
beer and avoid Maria's Husband !!!!

My name is Maria Varouta. I come from Greece. I am a Brownie leader and my
friend Derek is trying to teach me how to use his Macintosh. I wonder
whether his effort will be a success. Outside guiding my other hobbies are
listening to music , reading books and discovering intresting new
hobbies!!!! I am studying to be a kindergarten teacher at the University
of Athens. I have come here hoping to intrude the computer world and with
the information I get I am aiming to help the Greek Girls Guide Assosiation
build a network.

My name is Maurice Saltiel. I am a member of the Greek Girl Guide
Assosiation (never been a scout ...). I am a leader in a team of rangers
and unfortunately a leaders' trainer. I used to be a brownies' leader
since my early 20s, but lately I've been wiser. I live in Thessaloniki and
I study civil enginnering in the Aristotle Univercity of Thessaloniki. I
play basketball (successfully like all Greeks), and I listen to greek (not
folk) music. My favourite singer is Eleptheria Arvatitaki. I've come
here to learn from my new friend Derek all the tricks of all kinds of nets.
I just hope the G.G.G.Assosiation is satisfied by the Irish knowledge I'm
bringing back.

My name is Igor Bizjak

Danny Schwendener <macman@bernina.ethz.ch>

I'm a cub scout leader in Zurich, Switzerland. I originally set up a
newsgroup on Usenet (rec.scouting) and a collection of ideas, hints and
tips maintained by a board of editors and aimed at the scout and cub scout
leader (the rec.scouting FAQ files). Since the volume of these tips grew
rapidly, I started storing most of those that didn't make it into a FAQ on
an internet archive called ftp.ethz.ch. Aside of Scouting, I'm producing
electronic books on CD-ROM and
information systems, cook gargantuous dinners and go out for a walk
with my pet ant. Oh yes, my Scout name is Spike.
