Re: religious knots

The subject of requirements for the religious awards program has come
around several times, but I don't think anyone is really satisfied
with the outcome of the discussion, that they are set by the religious
organizations, not by BSA (or GSUSA). And in my experience, the packets
containing the requirements have a hefty price tag, compared to the
amount of paper and ink involved. There have been times when a parent
has asked me for the requirements for a specific award or denomination,
and all I have been able to do is point them to the Council office or
the Scout Shop, or the religious organization itself. In many cases, I
am sure, that is as far as it gets.

I am willing to post the requirements for the Jewish awards for Tiger
Cubs, Cub Scouts and Webelos, and Boy Scouts (and the corresponding
age levels in Girl Scouts). But this forum is kind of ephemeral (just
try to find that posting on xxx 3 or was it 5 months ago from who was it?).
It would be better if we could assemble the requirements into a document
that could go into the archives. Or maybe each award (or set of awards)
should have its own place in the archives.

What do you think?

By the way, most of the awards for adults that I know about do not have
specific requirements, but are awarded for exceptional service to youth
of that faith. When I was at the Philmont Training Center during
Relationships Week, 1992, I met a few people who had received awards
from multiple religious organizations.
