Hi Cliff,
that's it. Edelweisspirates!
It has nothing to do with noble and wise in the first place, because the
word was originally used by the Gestapo and HJ as discriminating name for
youth gangs that didn't join the HJ.
The boys from Cologne later called themselves Edelweisspiraten and they
wore a Edelweiss hidden under their jackets, or had one tatooed in their
arms.
