Scout Account Info

The patrol leader council of Troop 49 has planned some more adventuresome
outings (from both an activity and financial point of view) over the next
few years including: canoeing in New England and Philmont. While the troop
committee is busy thinking-up fund raising ideas, we need some ideas
concerning Scout Savings Accounts from the list. To avoid "remaking the
wheel," we ask what experiences either positive or negative have you had
with these accounts?

Our current plans include the following: 1) to establish Scout Savings
Accounts within the troop treasury, 2) accounts are to be used only for
direct expense for the above mentioned trips (registration fees,
transportation, food, non-personal equipment rental...canoes), 3) if a
Scout leaves the troop with a positive balance the money is left with the
troop.

Probably one of our biggest questions is how to divide the money raised in a
fair manner among the Scouts who participated? This seems to be one of the
most difficult issues to resolve, and the one fraught with the most pitfalls.
