ADMINISTRATIVE: Scouts-L Overload!

Jon Eidson (EIDSON@TCUBVM.IS.TCU.EDU)

FYI ...

For about the 12 day in the last 2 weeks, Scouts-L has hit is limit of
50 messages per day. What I have been doing is "culling" the leftover
messages, purging message that are "Thanks", "Welcome", "I Agree", quote
too much or are repeats. I have NO intention of changing the limit of
50 and when I cannot be here on a daily basis, the list will be simply
locked until I return..... So .... here are my suggestions:

READ THE SCOUTS-L WELCOME file and *FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES* (How can I
say this any louder ???

Whenever possible USE PRIVATE EMAIL!!! If someone ask a question, answer
that person privately. It is the responsibility of the person asking the
question to post a SUMMARY. This way they can edit out dups, email headers
etc and we can all enjoy the summary. Note your summary posting by
starting your email subject with "SUMMARY: " and your original question.

Dont QUOTE messages. If you could see it from my prospective (and others)
all messages are logged and quoted messages just add needless clutter
to the logs as well as most of your email. If you simply must quote, USE
YOUR EDITOR! and delete out needless stuff.

Shorten your signatures. Your original introduction message should
tell us who you are. A simple signature line with your name and email
address suffices ALL.

The SCOUTS-L list has well over 750 direct subscribers and is echoed to
over a dozen other lists. The larger we grow, the more important we must
follow these guidelines, otherwise none of us could get anything done :)

Thanks for your cooperation.

Yours in Scouting,
Jon Eidson, Listowner Scouts-L (J.Eidson@tcu.edu)
