Parental involvement

Hey,
One troop meeting was parent night. The parents were invited and organized
into patrols. They got to name their patrols and a "regular" meeting was
conducted with preopener, opening ceremony, skills instruction (lashing, winter
camp gear,etc). Scouts taught them.
Competition was held. A simple lashing exercise to make a frame. (Could have
been a sedan chair, a tripod or something else.) Parents patrols against scout
patrols.
There was a closing, scoutmaster's minute and cracker barrel. It went very
well.
With the displays and all, it was impressive. Do it once every know and then
and
you will keep interest and participation.
You might try a Parent/Scout campout if they get good enough at the skills!
