Re: Advice Needed: Good News & Bad News

I am the cubmaster of Pack 149 in Watkinsville, Ga. I solved that
problem this year by telling the parents when they signed up their boys
that all parents were expected to be involved in the pack. (den leader,
asst den leader, committee members)If they did not sign up for a
committee I would assume they were willing to serve in any job. This
year all my parents have commited to a job in the pack. This year right
now we have 80 boys. All my dens have at least one asst den leader. Most
of them have 2 assts and one den has 3 assts. When I am contacted by
parents to sign their boy up in the pack. I tell them at this time to
sign their son up, the parent has to serve as a leader. Cub Scouting is
a family activity and it must have parent involvement. If you don't then
you burn your leaders out. By dividing the work up for everyone no one
is overworked. My suggestion for you is to call each parent and tell
them that the den is to large and must be divided and that you need
parents to serve as leaders in the new den. If no one comes forward then
the den leader duties will be rotated among the parents of the new den.
This is not the best, but it is not fair to the boys to have a den so
large that none will recieve attention. YIS.
