Advice Needed: Good News & Bad News

}BAD NEWS: I realize that we should really have 3 Wolf dens with 7 boys
}in each den, and 6 registered leaders (two for each den), right? Our

I've just retired as a Den Leader and Cubmaster. What we found is that
the dens get too big and there are problems. Six to eight is a good
number. If you get more than a boy or two, the group dynamics really
change. Too big and it's hard to control.

}Do I start the meeting by explaining that we must have 4 more
}registered leaders, or some of the boys will be in jeopardy? I know

Our pack has told people that they can't join if there isn't enough
adults. Once, we had to stick to our words. We didn't want to do it,
but do you want a good experience for 8 boys or a poor experience for
12? We do it BEFORE the boys signup.

If a person really doesn't want to be a leader, forcing them will often
result in your loosing a co-leader. But, often you can talk them into
it.

}However, he seems to think that Jan and I can handle 21 wolves.

Speaking as a former Den Leader and a former Cubmaster, a den is very
different than a pack. The activites are different. Songs and
ceremonies work better with packs while games and projects work better
with dens. The attendence is different (both in extra leaders and a
room full of parents).

If he is unconvinced, you might let him be the Den Leader while you
become Cubmaster.
