In most councils with which I have been associated, the unit leader is sent
a letter when the approved eagle is received by the council. But the one I
liked best was to send a letter to the scout (with a copy to the SM) stating
that their eagle application had been approved and asking how they would like
to have it presented--mailed to them, informal presentation, court of honor,
etc. A copy of the letter was sent to the SM. I don't recall anyone asking
to have it mailed, one scout asked for an informal presentation. The rest all
contacted their SM to arrange an eagle court presentation. I thought that
giving the scout some say was an excellent option. BTW, the letter noted that
most eagle badges were presented at formal eagle courts of honor.
