I concur completely with everything Ian has said.
I have been over to the States on Scouting visits for 2 years, the first
stay was for 3 months.
I felt in myself that it was right, proper and respectful to stand at
attention and salute the flag of the host Country. I was not made to or felt
any desire to recite the Pledge of Allegience although I did make a point
of learning it and trying to understand it.
All this stems from respect to the host Country and the people with whom I
stayed. I would have done the same in any Country.
Regards
Mark
