Around here several people hasve been kicking around starting a new scout
orginization after checking with lawyer they found the name could be Boy and
Girl Scouts Of THe USA and no infringment would take place. They wish to do
away with a lot of the BSA rules and are very interested in doing it. This
may be the alternative to those who are getting upset at the BSA. In many
nations mor ethan one orginzation is around and they are doing fine. If it
does go in this council the bsa will lose 9 troops and 7 pack that day. The
main thing is they are tired of all the programs which do nothing for rural
areas and they think that boy scouts has become a money game and lacks the
physical side and the ideas of boys and girls being able to work together. I
have been in the boysc outs a long time and would not change but if things
continue to go down hill it would not be many more years before I would
consider it. The new orginzation which I have seen some of the items would go
back to the original scout emlems of the B-P movement and would reinstate
Rovers, and woudl consist of the following
1. wolf cubs ages 7 to11
2. scouts ages 11-15
3. senior scouts 15-18
4. rovers 16 -24
5. scout reserve any age wishing to work with scouting.
their emblem would be the perigrine falcon and they would use the old british
system of merit badges where you could gain them twice on harder levels at
each time. The program would be open to girls and boys at all levels. .... As
far as the program I think it is great they have applied for state and
federal charters [as not for profit orginization] but we do not know if it is
to scare the local council and the bsa or if they intend to go throguh with
it. We wait and see.
