Great idea to incorporate the local program in the school program - like
outward bound. Talk to the school and get a week at camp approved as you
would a field trip. Where else could the boys/girls learn about nature,
enviorn. concerns, physical fitness, self control and perseverance than at
summer camp in the great outdoors. Use it to your advantage as a part of an
outcome based curriculum in school.
Today, education is using the Scouting model of outcome based education to
enable young people to explore new and different things about themselves.
Anything you read about the direction education should be going in the next
decades uses the scouting program of badges (i.e. merit badge work) as the
