Hello again. I'm back after a very enjoyable summer.
As a little introduction, my name is Bill Euerle (sounds like "early"), and
have been on the list for about 2 years (although don't say much), and am
rejoining the list after being off for the summer. I am an assistant
scoutmaster with Troop 7, Foxboro, here in Massachusetts. I earned my Eagle in
'89, but have been less active due to the interference of college. I have now
graduated, and hope to become more active with my troop. My scouting strengths
tend to focus on my outdoor skills (I have done a lot of camping with my troop,
as well a 2 treks at Philmont and 2 years as a member of the Ranger
department at Philmont 1991 and 1994)
Philmont: Well, the Philmont summer season is over for the year. The last
closing campfire was yesterday (the 21st), and those last crews should be
departing for home today. Overall, the season was very successful (I had a
very enjoyable summer, and according to the evaluations that I have seen, so
did most of the crews) The final estimate was that about 19,400 people
participated in treks at Philmont, and several more thousand people
participated in programs at the training center. This is the largest group to
pass through Philmont ever, and at times the strain of running over capacity
showed. Through the lottery system in place for next year, hopefully most of
these problems will be alleviated. Not sure what else to say, if people have
questions, I would be happy to try and answer them.
