Re: BSA Eagle Positions of Responsibility

Along the same line of questioning, why isn't Venture Crew Chief considered
a Troop leadership position? I have an older Scout patrol that essentially
operates as a Venture Crew. They all have their Venture strips on their
uniforms, but they are led by a Patrol Leader. It seems to me that
Venture Crew Chief would encompass and extend the leadership opportunities
of Patrol Leader, but most of these guys are on Eagle-track, so we are
staying with PL.

Now, about what to do with the extra Scouts after the Troop Leadership
positions have been filled: DEN CHIEFS. We were very fortunate in our
recruiting last year in bringing in two full dens of Webelos. This spring
I realized that we were going to have about a dozen new First Class Scouts,
but only 2 PL positions available for them. I organized a Den Chief Training
Conference in June, before vacation and before summer camp. The bait was
"You'll need a Troop leadership position to go from First Class to Star, and
the priority goes to the guys going from Life to Eagle." We had eleven
Scouts participate, and four of them worked for a week at Cub Day Camp to
start the clock ticking.

Now I am working to find dens for these guys. Fortunately, there are three
good-sized Packs in our area, with a fourth starting up next month.
