Please accept my apologies for an incredibly wrong answer. In my haste to
be helpful, I consulted an old (but previously trusty) source.
A better answer now appears to be that in 1938, the bobwhite was reported
to be the state bird of Oklahoma and Rhode Island. Both states have since
chosen other birds as their state emblem. No state currently bestows the
honor on the noble, neglected bobwhite.
Next time I will triple check my answers. 8 (
