My favorite fund raising event which I read about was a scout troop in
Foxboro, Mass.
During the World Cup, there was a gentleman who wanted to make some money
by turning his open lot into a parking lot. he was near the stadium. When
he approached the town, my understanding is that Foxboro decided to make him
dearly for the permits; He found out that Non profit groups did NOT need a
permit. He found the local scout troop and gave them the use of the lot.
They charged $15 to park while everyone else was $20. They filled the lot
for all the games and parked several hundred cars.
Lots of cash, only 2-3 hours needed on each day!
-------------------------
We have a plant sale in the spring in April. Orders come in (door to door)
at the end of April and deliveries are made the Saturday before Mother's day.
The troop, over the last 5 years averages $7000 in gross revenues, $2800
in material costs.
Distribution:
$1000 goes to troop for programs and awards.
The rest of the profit goes to the SIP account (pseudo individual's bank
accounts for each boy) depending on how much each sold.
2 drawings of $25 for $100 in orders after the first week (get em going)
We have boys that finance their Philmont trips with this.
