Gerald and I are from the same council....
Gerald,
That ***PAY PHONE*** has been a real problem for the past 3 years since it
was moved from inside the administration building to it's present location,
right next to the coke machines.... One problem is that it really need to
be where it is for 46 weeks out of the year.. It need to be out of sight
during the 6 weeks of summer camp. Last year, we lost a boy at summer
camp too. His parents showed up unannouced because he was able to call
them without our knowledge. The mother refused to do anything but take
him home. We never saw him again.... The council camping chairman has
talked about putting a locked cover over the phone, but we haven't gotten it
done.
The second problem of the Wednesday night family night is a new one. Family
night used to be on Friday. When I redid the summer camp brochure last
December for the council, I discovered that they had moved it to Wednesday.
I think that they were trying to stop too many kids from going home on Friday
night. The DE who was the camp director told us he lost 25 kids one Wednesday.
Well it was HIS idea.... So I am going to ask the Scout Executive to get
next years camp director to move it back to Friday.....
