Donald, for starters you will need Fast Start and Scoutmaster's Basic
training, plus Youth Protection if you haven't received that already. The
Fast Start is 2 to 3 hours (one night), the Scoutmaster Basic course most of
the time runs for 2 to 3 hours for about 3 nights and then a weekend campout
training session.

After you get started, you will have the Troop meeting time each week and
the time required to prepare for the meeting, the Troop committee meeting
one night per month, the Patrol Leaders Council meeting one night per month,
the District Roundtable meeting one night per month, and the campout
weekend, one weekend per month. All and all it will run you about 8 nights a
month plus the camping weekend. It is not an easy job, but it can be a fun
and rewarding job. Don't try to do it all by yourself, enlist the other
parents and give them some of the jobs also.

Good luck and have fun.
