We sort of had this problem in our pack all along. It seems like all the
other boys get all these awards and I know that there is just no way they
could have done all that stuff unless they quit school, their parents quit
their jobs and all they did was scout requirements. My boys were always
disappointed that they did not get as many awards as everyone else, but I
told them to remember how proud they felt when we finally got one signed
off to know that they did earn it and just to remember that deep inside the
other boys do know that they did not really earn the awards.
There is probably nothing you can do about this mom. She knows she's been
cheating and she knows it's wrong. When you take that power out of her
hands next year and make her son really earn his awards she will either be
(a) relieved that someone is finally teaching her son some values or (b)
really mad. Her son will either want to be a true scout or he won't be.
But you can't keep the son and get rid of the Mom. You're stuck with her.
Just stick to your guns to uphold the integrity of the achievements.
