Re: Pinewood Derby Winning

Winning and losing is part of life (and pinewood derbies).

In my past experience, when trophies got bigger, there were more 'hurt'
feelings. The most successful derbies were when everyone got a participation
ribbon and the top three cars were mounted on small wooden pedestals for
the winners.

We usually designated den winners as well as the top three from the pack.
We also gave awards for best design, best paint job, etc.

We also worked best when we built cars to a theme, i.e., trucks, funny cars,
etc. If someone failed to follow the theme, they could still race but missed
out on the design type competitions.

Pinewood derby was such a big thing that we ran it on a Saturday and served
hotdogs and sodas to everyone at the end.

I do not recall any problems with cubs and only a few with parents.
