Michael,

The tradition of keeping ashes to continue the spirit of Scouting is common
with Girl Scouting in the states. I can't speak for BSA as the reason I got
involved was gross lack of Scouting knowledge. I've only been in two years,
and I know far more about Scouting than most of those around me,
unfortunately.
