Well Hello Folks

My name is Garen Thatcher. I am currently the Scoutmaster for Troop
329 in the Cascade Pacific Council in Vancouver Washington. Vancouver
is a small city across the Columbia River from Portland OR. My troop
is a LDS(Latter Day Saint(mormon)) unit.

I have been involved in Scouts since I was 10. Earned Eagle on my 14th
birthday (this is much to young) and got right into the OA on the
ceremonial teams for my lodge. Dancing and ceremonies were my
speciality for 3 years till girls, cars, girls, work, girls, and
school took me away from Scouts. Got back in when I was about 23, now
30 and have held various positions in 3 different troops since then. I
was ASM, Varsity Coach (team coach), committee member, and now SM.

For those of you who arn't familiar with the LDS method of Scouting,
maybe I can let you know over the months how I have seen it happen.
There are definitly pro's and con's to the way we do it and I often
get into personal, district, and scout conflicts with BSA methods vs.
LDS methods.

I come to this forum after hanging out on alt.scouting for over a year
now and getting some excellent information from there and through the
mail from several of you. I have become more and more frustrated with
the direction that I see alt.scouting going and probably feel as many
of you do about that area of USENET. Though it did lead me hear, so it
can't be all bad.

This area is really great for scouting and I love being involved with
the young men. I am looking forward to contributions I can help with
and things I can get from others on the net.
