On the issue of precedents for BSA's preventing non-related groups from
using the word "Scout", I have been told (but cannot provide the citation)
that in the 1940's or 1950's the BSA sued to stop the Organization of Russian
Scouts (in exile -- heirs of the original Russian Scouts supressed by the
Soviet regime) from using the word Scout in the English translation of their
title. The result was the organization's switching to the word "pathfinders".
Scouts in Russia today, BTW, use the anglicized word "skaut" in preference
to the original Russian "razvedchiki".
Again, I have no details on the specific situation; this is as much as I was
told by a source I deem reliable.
