Administrative: Scouts-L Overload

Jon Eidson (EIDSON@TCUBVM.IS.TCU.EDU)
Fri, 17 Jun 1994 07:57:48 CST

As many of you are aware, the Scouts-L list has been a pretty busy place
as of late. Our "direct" subscription is well over 550 and this does
NOT include site that "echo" our postings. Since the limit of 50
messages was hit last night, I thougth some reminders were in order.

First off there IS a 50 message per day limit of postings. While I can
easily change this, I have no intentions of doing so. I consider this a
sort of sanity check. If Scouts-L is over the limit, I will cull the
held postings and restart the list the next day with a fresh limit
(less the held postings).

Bottom line is READ the SCOUTS-L WELCOME file! Also, try to overcome
the "need" to reply to every postings that comes across the list. I
find that 99 % of the time someone else has already expressed my
viewpoint without me having too.

Finally, I find that most subscribers leave the list because of this
"overload", so read the rules in the SCOUTS-L WELCOME file before you
post to the list.

Thanks for "listening" and in help keeping SCOUTS-L the quality list
that has been known for.

Yours in Scouting,
Jon Eidson, Listowner Scouts-L (eidson@tcubvm.is.tcu.edu)

PS. If you have any comments or suggestions to add to the WELCOME file
please contact me privately. The goal of the WELCOME file is to make
it the "handbook" and official guide for use of the SCOUTS-L resource.
