DISTRICT SCOUTERS' CONFERENCE
BRUCE C JOHNSON (JOHNSON@MAIL.LOC.GOV)

Good morning fellow Scouters!
Thanks to my District Chairman, I have a new thread for us
to consider over the next few days. Here goes ...
Our district (National Pike District of Baltimore Area
Council) holds an annual Scouter's Conference. Most years it
seems to be held in Ocean City, Maryland at a resort hotel, and
it turns into basically a recreational weekend for mostly
district Scouters and their spouses.
Our new Chairman, Joel Meredith, is interested in changing
this annual event into something much more training oriented. He
like it to be either a full day or a full weekend event,
targetted at all district level people (commissioners,
roundtable, district committee), as well as unit level people
(unit leaders, assistant leaders, and unit committee). What he
has in mind is something that will enlighten people, envigorate
them, and possibly get some of them to consider different
positions, in some cases, on the district level.
Joel asked me to query my SCOUTS-L colleagues to see whether
anyone else is doing anything similar, and if so, to please
explain what they're doing. Even more useful would be sample
agendas, syllabi, or training outlines. Please feel free to
respond to me off-list if you'd prefer (though I think this topic
has pretty broad potential interest to the group). Additionally,
if you have too much to send via the Internet, please send
materials to:
Joel J. Meredith, Chairman
National Pike District
4605 Walther Avenue
Baltimore, MD 21214 USA
Thank you very much for your help.
