Transition Training Scout to Scouter

From: Fred Rogers <fredrogers@VNET.IBM.COM>
}Jay, this is actually very clearly defined by National. The change
}from Scout to Scouter occurs on the eighteenth birthday. Prior to that
}date you are a Scout. From that day forward you are a Scouter.

Yes, but ...

}I've even seen this occur on a campout. On Friday night the young man
}could share a tent with his younger buddies. On Saturday night he was
}classed as an adult and could not share a tent with youth.

I don't think he could move into an adult tent either. The problem is
if he is wearing a Scout uniform he's an adult, but if he puts on an
Explorer uniform he's still a youth. I have worked with this age group
since YPP, but I think you need tents for youth, adults and 18 though
20 year olds.

YPP brought a training issue to mind that has bothered me. Our council
is encouraging us to move our Webelos into a troop in Feb. or Mar., but
I haven't seen any training courses for the adults moving into the troop
with them. (They did have Cub Leader training at the end of the year.)
It looks like most of our patrol will have their Second Class before I
get a chance to update my training. (Six of them will ask the
Scoutmaster for their Tenderfoot Scoutmaster's Confrence at the troop
meeting tomorrow.)
