That's the reason why when MOST military Scouters talk to each other,
the rank goes RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW. In my "professional role", I am a
military officer all of the time. However, in my Scouting role, I am
one gear that works with other gears to keep the machine moving and
working. My gear is no larger or more important because what I do in
my work life; most folks that know me don't associate me with the
military so much as what I do for Scouting, the Red Cross and other
groups that I work with (or as "Jessica's Mike"). I've had the
fortune to work with senior military and civilians that I have to
salute during the day and in the evening having them to listen to me.

I have met some of those "rank pullers" and after a while, they go
away after they find that "pulling rank" don't really cut it when you
are doing things for others.

They perceive Scouting as being a "officer organization" because in
Scouting's past, there were separate Troops and Packs for community
housing areas which were populated by officers' families and others by
enlisted families. I've found that too...a simple talk to them
emphasizing that "Scouting is for ALL families, not just the elite"
works for me!

Same here.
