adult awards in the BSA'

Mike. . .
But also in reply to Gregor, IF an adult is ONLY
interrested in medals or physical rewards for service in BSA,
that person is in the wrong program. In my opinion.

Some THANKS is important. But I think we have all seen
many adults fight over awards to other adults. "what did
that clown do to earn the Silver Rodent" etc. I think
awards such as the scouters key, and training awards that
have a standard set of guidelines are OK. You work to
improve your training and skill levels and you get a
little peice of cloth to wear. OK fine. But when we
start to introduce individual awards based on politics,
or the GOOD Ole boys awards, I think IT can hurt the program
and cause some people to LEAVE the program when LESS
deserving people get the rewards because they KNOW the
right people. Maybe that is why some councils have
eliminated LOCAL awards.

I still keep that little card with me that starts out:
A HUNDRED YEARS FROM NOW . . . .

Don Izard,
been scouting almost all day :)
