Re Advancement for Scouters
On your questions about requirements for Scouter Awards, first on the
Scouters' Religious (Episcopal) Knot. This is pretty much a pure award type
thing, rather than a do this, then this to earn it. The major thing is to
have a pastor or minister that cares enough about Scouting to take the
trouble to find the necessary paper work, chase down who ever needs to sign
it, and submit the forms. The presentation in general is made at a church
service, rather than at a Scouting function.
Most of the Protestant religious awards are administered and obtained from
an organization called PRAY. That stands for Protestant Religious Awards for
Youth, or something very close to that. If there is someone that you would
like to nominate for the award, you can obtain the necessary forms and
requirements of who must sign it and that sort of thing from PRAY at
P.O. Box 6900, St. Louis, MO 63123. They also have a 1-800 number, it is
1-800-933-PRAY.
In the Longhorn Council, there is at the present, a task force being formed
in the Episcopal Churches to try and have each church sponsor a Scouting
unit of some type, so perhaps there will soon be much more emphasis placed
on the adult religious awards. The form number for the Episcopal Saint
George award is No. 17-108.
As to your questions about the Scouters' Training Award and the Scouters'
Key Award, I was not sure if you were asking about Cub Scout or Boy Scout
awards. Both the Training award and the Scouters' Key award are Boy Scout
level awards.
The Training Award has the following requirements:
(1) Complete Boy Scout Leaders Fast Start Training
(2) Complete Scoutmaster Fundamental training
(3) Complete a total of two years as a registered Boy Scout Leader
And do five of the following:
. Five Campouts
. Two annual unit or district SME drives
. Serve on the staff of a training event
. Participate in a supplemental training course
. Participate in 3 courts of honor
. Help with Troop money earning project
. Serve as merit badge counselor
. Complete Wood Badge Training
. Assist WEBELOS Den for 6 months
. Attend at least 6 Boy Scout Roundtables
. Help organize a Scout Troop
The Scouters' Key requirements include earning the Training Award, plus
Conduct Jr Leader Training 3 times
Tenure- complete three years of tenure as a Scoutmaster within a five year
period.
At least twice during the three year period, have the Troop earn the
National Quality Unit Award.
Hope this was the information that you were looking for.
