The "gospel" according to DEs is not always correct, nor always wrong.
Several days ago I typed the exact rule on this issue. You may find it in the 1
994 issue of the Guide for Safe Scouting. (part no. 34410).
For the info of those who may not have the reference:
" The Boy Scouts of America prohibits the use of alcoholic beverages and control
led substances at encampments or activities on property owned and/or operated b
y the Boy Scouts of America, or at any activity involving participation of yout
h members."
That is it, guys. That means you can not drink around the kids. Oh, by the way
local councils do not have the right to change or in any way alter the rules a
nd regs. (That is what is quoted above, the Rules and Regs.)
Hope this helps.
I personally would ban "booze" at all times! But then, that would make me very
unpopular with hundreds of Scouters who like a drink especially at the annual d
istrict and council dinners.
