Re: WEBELOS-ACTIVITY PINS

Well, if you are just ending the first year of Webelos and the group
has done 9 pins, you have 11 to go for next year. Those that have 15
have probably done the "home" ones. As Webelos, they should do the
activities in the meetings, and the standard is 1 pin a month, with
any spare weeks doing Craftsman which could take 20 years. :)
I'm kidding. Any spare weeks would see you doing additional work on
whichever badge y'all chose. It is good to also do the sports stuff
in both years.

Since you have a bunch of gung-ho kids, plan for a fall and early
spring campout. Also, the road to Arrow of Light has you visiting
a Scout camp, Troop meetings, etc. It can fill up your calendar.
Take a good look at those requirements, and after you have outlined
the year (most try to have the boys get their arrow in Feb, and
cross over in late Mar./early Apr.: this leaves them with Apr./May
to get involved in their new troop before BS summer camp)
you will find that you do not have that much time left.
<Geez what a long sentence> You will find (if you haven't done
it already) that Readyman is serious, and takes time. Craftsman
takes TIME. Citizen is boring (Sorry folks, everyone I polled said
so) so fill in months with doing it instead of all one month, unless
you can make it more fun. Visiting will help.(see req.)
They tend to forget their knots, and memorizing the Oath and Law can
be hard, so do this continually all year.
When it's all over, head for Shoneys for a hot fudge ice cream cake!
(er, maybe you'd want to head for a beer, to each his/her own... what-
ever, because you'll have earned it!) It's been fun, but without
parents to help, it's been work!
