Hats - Thanks from Author

I have recieved an abundance of respones and I thank you all for contributing
your ideas.

I never realized that this was such a controversial subject. It seems people
fall into the following categories:

1. Large number of Scouters tend toward following tradition. Where a
uniform hat with the uniform or don't wear a hat at all. Take off the hat in
the building. Many raised the church issue, but this doesn't seem to be a
problem with anyone.

2. Several dads of teenagers and teenagers themselves feel it is not so
important. Some used the phrase (not a battle worth fighting). Many dads
admitted to their own frustration with their kids.

3. A number of units have adopted Troop, camporee etc hats, which they
allow members to wear like a Scout hat.

I have decided to have a circle meeting (all scouts and scouters form a circle
and all are equal). We will discuss all views of the issue and let the boys
vote on it. Leaders have a much easier time enforcing rules that the members
establish. For information, this troop is:
12 - 9th graders
7 - 8th
8 - 7th
10 - 6th
10 - new

I will advise the Scouts-L group of the results.
