Re: alcohol and scouting

Mike, James, & all other pro-consumers:
Whether you have 7 or 20 adults with the 20 boys makes no difference.
If you are THERE, you may be liable. Remember the article about the
football game where a scout was hurt (posted here awhile back)? BSA
was edited from the lawsuit because it is against BSA policy to play
football. ALL scouters at the event were included, whether they were
"in charge" or not, because they were THERE in a LEADERSHIP/ ADULT
role.
As a parent, I want ALL my son's camping companions to be completely
SOBER (only way to ensure that is not to drink) ALL THE TIME.
This is not too much to ask.
If you cannot go through a weekend without NEEDING a drink, maybe you
should consult professional help. Regardless, you should not be
returning to camp where you might be needed to help out (which IS why
you came) in a less than sober state.
Scouts are supposed to do what is right, be prepared, and do their
duty cheerfully (thats why the scroll looks like a smile). That is
what I do, and what I expect from any adult who comes along.
