As a former Scoutmaster, I came to the realization that the Life BOR was the
last shot that a troop committee has to make corective action in a troop
program. They provided me with good information on how the troop was doing and
going. They may have been over enthusiastic at times, but we prospered.
The eagle BOR is very public (in this troop with local citizens,
town fathers, school peolple, etc.). Take the oppurtunity to listen
to what the Star Scout is telling you about what excites him in the program,
what he would want changed, hwere he sees the troop going, etc. Use the
situation to prepare him for his eagle BOR. The district Advancement
Committee will help with questions you should be asking. The Training or
Round Table should be able to assist on how to conduct the Scoutmaster
Conference. They are a very good resource to know about, check it out with
the Scoutmaster.
