Hi Rob and Welcome to Scouts-L.
My name is Randy Sessions. I am the Cub Roundtable Commissioner for
our District and also a Cubmaster. I have a Pack of 45 boys and am
in my 3rd year as Cubmaster. I am also on the Cub Leader training
staff and am a key staff member of our local Pow Wow.
Let me tell you about our fall roundup. We call it the "School Night
for Scouting". We assign all of our cub packs a schoold to recruit
from. Most of our units are sposered by churches and several are in
close proximity to one another. This makes things interesting. Once
each unit has a school assigned, it is up to the units to contact the
schools to make arrangements for rooms needed and such. The school
night is on one night at all of the schools and that date is
prearranged with the school district. Each school is requested to
make available a staff member to act as a go between between the
school and the cub pack. Each cub pack has a school night
coordinator preferrably not the cubmaster. We encourage the units to
have two separate activities planned for the evening, one for the
boys and a business meeting for the parents. We try to have the
units separate the parents and the boys so that the boys can run and
play games and the parents can be "bored" with the details and such.
I was my district's schoold night chair for two years. I gave all
the fun and excitement up to become the Roundtable Commissioner....I
dunno if it was an equal trade!
Drop me a note if yo have any questions.
