Lew,
My understanding is, that the only formal exception to the rule regards the pre
sence of adults in vehicles on permitted trips. I'll have to look for
an answer re: the teacher during the course of his/her classroom instruction.
Presumably, each school district may also have its own set of rules regarding
other adults in the classroom (most likely, acting to restrict that number).
