Pretzels (Was: Cooking with solar energy)

I read Lynn's message with the mention of pretzels.
We made some with our girls last year (they are a very unusual food here :) )
from the recipe in our handbook, and there is a story to why they were first
made. (I don't know how reliable it is :) )
The first pretzels were made by a baker in the Swiss Alps, who had been put in
prison for making bad bread. He could be freed if he could make something
through which the sun could shine three times - he came up with the pretzel.
Nice story anyway :) (Good demonstration of lateral thinking also!)
Anne.
