BS Roundtable Themes

Hi,

If you will refer to your B.S. Roundtable planning guide, you will find that the
roundtable themes are to be decided annually (usually in May) by those in atten
dance at the roundtable, with the topics getting the highest number of requests
being planned for the coming Scout year (Sept - June) BS roundtable themes.
The themes are to be based on 1) identified district needs and 2) Woods Wisdom t
hemes (now 36+) which gives the participants at the May roundtable MORE than eno
ugh choices for topics.

This has been in place in writing since May 1992. And it does work, why? 1) it
gives those who are attending your roundtable a voice in the topics to be prese
nted, thus identifying their own unit's requirements, 2) It provides an opportun
ity for unit commissioners to promote attendance to "specific" committee persons
, i.e. advancement chairman for the roundtable on say New Merit Badge Requiremen
ts, and 3) the whole entire year's themes are geared to your own district.

I've been using this system since 1992 in two different districts and two differ
ent councils, and BOY does it work! Our attendance goes UP every month! We sta
rted with 3 units represented (past history) and now have ALL units represented
with more than one person. We have been able to personally MEET advancement ch
airmen from the units; membership committee people from the units; SPLs from the
units; committee chairmen, and on and on. It IS the national program, and afte
r over 20 years, I have found that you 1). work as written 2) report changes sug
gested in writing and VOILA! things get changed most of the time.

If you would like, I can email my current BS Roundtable themes; survey sheets, e
tc.

Hope this helps some of you...
