bike rodeo

We have gotten tremendous help for bike rodeos from our local police
department and also local bicycle clubs. Recently at a roundtable, a boy
who used a community bike rodeo as an eagle project while a scout in Europe
shared some of his information. He got bike shops to donate items and did
lots of community public relations work to get prizes etc. Basically,
events include a bicycle safety inspection; demonstrating proper signalling;
how to stop, turn left, etc. at an intersection (marked with chalk on a
playground, for example); weaving through traffic cones without knocking
them down; riding as slowly as you can for a certain distance without
falling over; riding within a narrowly constrained area to see if you can
avoid weaving; and more of that ilk. There may have been something about
how quickly you can stop, or a speed race. The cub scout handbooks often
have requirements for bicycle safety and would be a resource as well.
I have a whole file at home. If you need more help, I could perhaps xerox
something and use snail mail ...
