Rick, I'll see if I can dig up their year end profit figures for 1993 and
see what it tells us.
If you'll remember at the time Levi's pulled their BSA funding, so did Bank
of America (following the lead?, since BofA is also headquartered in CA and
owned by TransAmerica Corp.).
After several looong months (for both sides) of dealing with the funding
loss (and MANY BSAers being outspoken to BofA about their decision, and many
(spelled lots of $$) pulling their finds out of BofA and going to other
banks (who gladly accepted their $$ and voiced approval of BSA's stands),
Bank of America recanted and resumed their contributions to BSA.
I'm sure that BofA didn't just have a political change of heart, and that
the $$ impact was the reason for the change of heart. (Although there were
stories that the original decision to pull funds was made by a lower level
VP and the Pres. of BofA over-rode the decision ??).
All this to say, I suspect a similiar $$ impact was had on Levi's.
