I thought the Eye to Eye piece was a bit of shabby reporting. There is a big
misperception about nonprofits in general, and I think they unfairly raked
the Connecticut Trails (correct title?) Council over the coals for the simple
fact that nonprofit organizations need to raise money to operate. Everyone
knows that volunteers work with the youth, and have out-of-pocket expenses,
but Eye to Eye ignored the fact that nonprofit organizations also need to
exist beyond the front line of volunteers and youth to expand beyond whom
they presently serve. Eye to Eye didn't even address the fact that both the
GS/USA and the BSA hire professionals to run scouting in areas of the USA
where volunteers can't be found (inner city for example), and that the
evil professions they are vilifying could be making MUCH morein the
corporate world.
Eye to Eye just vilified the program without showing alternatives, suggestions,
or positives. Would they prefer that Girl Scout cookies are sold in
grocery stores?
